The USD 470 Board of Education has selected Will Pfannenstiel as the next superintendent of Arkansas City Public Schools.
Pfannenstiel, currently the district’s assistant superintendent for business and operations, has accepted the position. Formal approval of his contract is expected during Monday evening’s board meeting.
Pfannenstiel joined USD 470 in 2006 as assistant principal at Arkansas City High School and later served as principal at Arkansas City Middle School. He has more than 20 years of experience in education, including earlier work as a teacher and coach.
Board President Jon Oak said Pfannenstiel’s character and leadership stood out during the search process.
“Will is a helper,” Oak said. “He cares about people, he listens, and he works hard to support our students and staff.”
Board Vice President Jamie Pieper said Pfannenstiel is committed to the district and community.
“He has spent much of his career supporting our staff and students,” Pieper said. “I believe he will continue building a positive culture across the district.”
Pfannenstiel said he is grateful for the opportunity to lead the district.
“Ark City is home for my family, and USD 470 has been a big part of our lives,” Pfannenstiel said. “I care deeply about our students, staff and community, and I look forward to continuing the work of supporting our schools.”
He will replace Ron Ballard, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
