Longtime Winfield attorney and Cowley County Counselor Mark Krusor has died, his wife, Teresa, announced on social media.
He passed away Wednesday night following a brief illness and had been hospitalized in Wichita, according to a Facebook post.
Krusor, 74, was a fixture in the local legal community for nearly five decades and had served as legal counsel to the three-member Cowley County Commission since March 1, 2012. During that time, he advised county commissioners, elected officials and staff on a wide range of legal matters and played a key role in guiding county government through numerous decisions and initiatives.
In addition to his work as county counselor, Krusor served as municipal judge for the City of Oxford and built a reputation throughout south-central Kansas for his professionalism, integrity and commitment to public service.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Cowley County Board of County Commissioners and county staff remembered Krusor as a trusted legal advisor, dedicated public servant and friend to many throughout the region. Continue below ad.

The Cowley County Board of County Commissioners and County Staff are deeply saddened by the passing of Mark W. Krusor. Mark was more than a respected attorney and trusted legal advisor, he was a dedicated public servant, a valued member of our community, and a friend to many throughout Cowley County and South-Central Kansas.
For nearly fifty years, Mark practiced law with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Throughout his distinguished career, he served countless individuals, businesses, organizations, and governmental entities with wisdom and compassion. His reputation for excellence earned him the respect of colleagues, clients, judges, and public officials alike.
Mark faithfully served as Municipal Judge for the City of Oxford, Kansas, where he demonstrated fairness, impartiality, and a deep respect for the rule of law. His service to the bench positively impacted citizens and communities throughout our region.
Since March 1, 2012, Mark served as County Counselor for Cowley County. During that time, he provided invaluable guidance to the Board of County Commissioners, elected officials, department leaders, and county staff. His legal expertise, thoughtful counsel, and calm demeanor helped guide Cowley County through countless decisions, challenges, and opportunities. Mark’s commitment to public service played an important role in strengthening county government and advancing initiatives that benefited the citizens we serve.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark will be remembered for his character. He was approachable, thoughtful, generous with his time, and always willing to share his knowledge and experience. Whether assisting elected officials, advising county staff, representing clients, or serving his community, Mark carried himself with humility, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to doing what was right.
