Anyone interested in learning what it’s like to be a firefighter or serving the community through the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department will have an opportunity later this month during a free two-day Firefighting Camp.
The camp is designed to introduce participants to the fire service while raising awareness of the department’s Firefighter Reserve Program, a volunteer program that helps supplement staffing during emergencies and other times of increased need.
“We wanted to help Reserve Captain Mike Evinger spread the word about the reserve program while also giving people an opportunity to experience the fire service firsthand,” Firefighter-EMT Isaiah Stephens said. “This camp will introduce participants to some of the skills we use every day and provide a hands-on look at what it’s like to be a firefighter.”
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 21-22 at the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department, 115 S. D St.
Participants must be at least 16 years old. All attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver, while those younger than 18 must also have a parent or guardian sign a consent form. Continue below ad.
During the two-day camp, participants will tour fire trucks, watch firefighter equipment demonstrations, learn basic fire safety, participate in team-building exercises and take part in hands-on firefighting activities.
The camp is free, but advance registration is required.
To register, call the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department at 620-441-4430 or email Firefighter-EMT Isaiah Stephens at [email protected].
