Curtis Boone, the 69-year-old Arkansas City man accused of shooting his stepson last month, was released from the Cowley County Jail late Monday night after his bond was reduced to $100,000.
The reduction was part of an agreement reached between prosecutors and Boone’s defense attorney that also established conditions for his release. Judge Christopher Smith then signed off on the agreement.
Under the agreement, Boone will be subject to GPS monitoring and must regularly report to the court. He is prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim and from using drugs or alcohol.
There have also been indications during court proceedings that Boone could pursue a self-defense claim as the case moves forward. No formal self-defense argument has yet been made in court.
Boone is charged with aggravated battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm while under the influence in connection with the July shooting of his 57-year-old stepson in Arkansas City. The incident occurred July 21 and Boone was arrested on July 22.
