KAY COUNTY — A man was killed in an accident Wednesday just before 11 a.m. in front of the 7 Clans Casino on U.S. 77 south of the state line.
According to Newkirk Fire Chief Adam Longcrier at the scene, a man driving a passenger vehicle pulled out from the Gasino onto U.S. 77 in front of a semi hauling a trailer.
The man’s name has yet be released, however he was described as being in his late 50s or early 60s. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Longcrier said the car was hit on the driver side and had Kansas plates. The vehicle ended up in the ditch on the east side of the highway with significant damage.
Newkirk police was first on scene. Newkirk Fire, the Kay County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted.
Traffic in front of the casino is limited to one lane. Longcrier said traffic will be reduced there for most of the afternoon as cleanup continues.
