14-year-old on bicycle hit by car in Ark City; Police say boy failed to stop at intersection

A 14-year-old was transported to a Wichita hospital following an accident Saturday night that involved a vehicle and juvenile on a bicycle.

According to a news release from the Ark City Police Department Monday afternoon, officers with the ACPD and Ark City EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Highland Drive and Radio Lane at about 9:40 p.m.

Officers arrived and located a 14-year-old male struck by a vehicle while riding through the intersection. Officers learned that the juvenile had been southbound on Highland Drive when he failed to stop at the Radio Lane stop sign. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident.

The juvenile was treated by EMS on scene and was transported by EMS to SCK Health Medical Center north of Ark City. The juvenile was later transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and is believed to be in stable condition.

Officers spoke to several witnesses and bystanders at the scene.
