Casino staff performed lifesaving first aid to one of the shooting victims at the 7 Clans Gasino convenience store north of Newkirk early Tuesday morning, according to a news release from 7 Clans Casino Wednesday.

“The personnel at the convenience store acted bravely in the face of a very uncertain situation,” the news release read. “The clerk performed lifesaving first aid to help stop the bleeding on one of the victims and with the help of casino security, waited until EMS and the Kay County Sheriff arrived on the scene.”

Early Tuesday morning, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Ark City Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Otoe–Missouria Tribal Police and the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, responded to a report of four individuals who were discovered with gunshot wounds at the 7 Clans Gasino north of Newkirk.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office has since said it believes the shooting took place in rural Cowley County. The news release from 7 Clans said the shooting took place “off property in Kansas,” and added, “in an attempt to get help, they arrived on our property.”

At no time did the victims enter the main casino, 7 Clans said.

“I would like to personally commend our employees for their life-saving actions and our security for their quick response to the situation, ” stated 7 Clans First Council CEO Bruce Barnett. ” We are committed to providing a safe environment for our guests and this incident reaffirms our staff’s ability to respond.”
