71-year-old Ark City woman is identified as person killed in accident on 77 bypass

A 71-year-old Ark City woman has been identified as the person killed in the accident on the U.S. 77 bypass Tuesday night, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Connie J. Hurst was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to an Ark City mortuary. She was the driver of a 2003 Mazda MPV.

Hurst was southbound on the bypass about a mile north of Kansas Ave. when her vehicle collided with a northbound 2017 Chevy Cruz driven by 18-year-old Lauren G. McPherson of Ark City. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane, according to the highway patrol.

McPherson was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in critical condition. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

Two passengers in the Hurst vehicle were taken to the SCK Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m.
