Police in Ark City will make some accommodations for wide load truck traffic due to bridge work on the U.S. 77 bypass. Cowley Post reported on that project earlier this week.
To address issues at the construction site, the city said in a written statement, there will be occasions when lighter wide load trucks will be allowed to use Summit as an alternative route. That adjustment will apply strictly to wide loads only, city officials said.
“We will continue to enforce truck route violations for regular semis, particularly cattle trucks,” said Ark City Police Chief Jim Holloway.
Work began Monday and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The repair work is on the 77 bypass in southeast Ark City where the roadway passes over railroad tracks. Continue reading story below ads.
Traffic in the work zone has been reduced to one lane while the Kansas Dept. of Transportation project is completed. State and local officials ask that drivers slow down and exercise caution in that area.
