Ark City Fire/EMS called to two structure fires within 24 hours

Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department responded to two structure fires in a 24-hour period Monday and Tuesday.

According to a news release Wednesday from the ACFD, crews were dispatched to the 11000 Block of 266th Drive Monday at approximately 8:15 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

The incident involved heavy fire throughout the structure, which required over an hour to bring under control in freezing temperatures, the news release said. Crews remained on scene for two and a half hours to extinguish hot spots.

The estimated damage was $60,000 and the cause is under investigation. Winfield and Udal fire departments provided aid. No injuries were reported.

Less than 24 hours later, on Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m., the Ark City Fire/EMS responded to the 7900 Block of 322nd Road for another reported structure fire.

Crews found fire in an exterior wall, and within 15 minutes of arrival, the fire was under control. Crews spent an additional hour on the scene to extinguish hot spots.

The fire department estimated damages totaling $5,000 and the cause is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Winfield Fire/EMS Department responded but was later disregarded.
