First Church of the Nazarene’s free Clothes Closet in Ark City is experiencing more incoming clothes than outgoing clothes, so organizers would like to remind the public they are open every Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.

This is a ministry of Ark City Nazarene and all items are free of charge. The church is located at 1928 N. 11th.

The Clothes Closet was started by a couple of women of the church around 2017. The church had some extra space and they felt that this was a perfect ministry for the Arkansas City community.

With JC Penney going out of business, the church was able to get commercial racks and shelving for a very low cost and with some initial donations, the Clothes Closet became a reality. The Clothes Closet has been going strong and growing ever since. In the early days, the ministry charged a small fee intended to support the ministry and it was quickly determined that what the community needed was a place to get clothing free.

“The Clothes Closet has been an amazing ministry success. We are not a large church but with the generous help of volunteers and a great deal of community donations, the ministry is thriving.” said Pastor Josh White.

The Clothes Closet accepts donations and sometimes the church receives more clothing than it has going out, which is the case right now.

“We don’t ever want to turn donations away but we have discovered that we need to get the word out so that people know that we have free clothing and we’d love to see more people coming through. ” said White.

Donations are accepted in person on Saturday mornings. when the Clothes Closet is open. Donations can be left by the front door anytime as long as they are in weather proof containers. For more information you can message the church on Facebook, call 620-446-0409 or email [email protected].
