Ark City High boys head basketball coach job open again after Hankins departs

Ark City High School is back looking for a head boys basketball coach following the quick departure of Terril Hankins.

Earlier this month, Cowley Post reported that Hankins had been hired by USD 470 to fill the job. David Boxman was serving as Bulldogs coach in an interim capacity since the resignation of longtime head coach C.J. Jennings in fall 2024.

Hankins has since decided he cannot keep the job.

“We are currently in the process of hiring a coach,” Aaron Bucher, director of athletics and activities for the high school, said by email Friday morning. “There are always a lot of factors involved in people taking coaching positions related to their full time job and their spouses job situations. Unfortunately for us, some things changed and it was no longer going to be feasible for Coach Hankins to carry out the duties of head basketball coach. We wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

Hankins was previously the coach at Blackwell High School.
