Arkansas City High School celebrated 79 students being inducted into the National Honor Society and 27 seniors continuing a long line of Alumni Leaders during a National Honor Society Induction Ceremony Wednesday night.

According to a news release from USD 470, Ark City High School’s NHS Chapter Leader and social studies teacher, Shanna Graham, said that while it’s a diverse group, the inductees have some things in common.

“All of these students were selected for induction into NHS because they have demonstrated the cornerstone qualities held in esteem by the Society,” Graham said. “These qualities are represented by the torch emblem – leadership, scholarship, character, and service.”

Ark City’s NHS Chapter, which is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, has existed for over 50 years.

“It encourages high school students to prepare themselves for useful roles in our society,” Graham said. “We are confident these students will go on to stretch their wings and make a huge impact on the world as true leaders.”

The ceremony also marked a new term for NHS officers.

For the 2023-2024 school year, Lexi Sanders will serve as president, Trevor Johnson will serve as vice-president, Blake Bucher will serve as secretary, and Hadley O’Toole will serve as treasurer.
