A 22-year-old man from Ark City was arrested Thursday after being accused of brandishing a firearm following a traffic accident at Radio Lane and Summit.
Teige Bastion was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of criminal threat, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into jail just after noon, posted a bond of $4,000 and was released a few hours later, according to online records.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers spoke with witnesses who stated that the driver of the vehicle that had been struck, Mr. Bastion, exited his vehicle with a pistol. Bastion was seen waving the firearm around and pointing it at the vehicle that had hit his.
An investigation revealed that an elderly driver, not identified by name in a written release from police, was southbound on Summit and had struck the side of Bastion’s vehicle, which had been stopped at the intersection. The elderly man’s vehicle then rear-ended another vehicle that was also stopped at the light.
When questioned, Bastion admitted to exiting his vehicle with the gun and that his actions were driven by anger toward the other driver.
The elderly driver was cited for causing the accident.
