An Ark City man was arrested Sunday evening for two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to a news release from the Ark City Police Department Wednesday, Cowley County Emergency Communications received multiple calls about a subject pointing a firearm at individuals at the stop light in the 2700 block of N. Summit Street at approximately 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

The subject was reported as the driver of an older F-150 pickup with an Oklahoma tag.

The vehicle left the scene but was soon located by officers near Edgemont Drive and Summit Street in Ark City.

Branon Duncan, 50, was identified as the driver and was taken into custody. During the search of Duncan’s vehicle, a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun was found.

The ACPD says the two individuals that the firearm was pointed at informed officers this incident started because of a near collision and an exchange of words. The individuals identified Duncan as the subject who pointed the firearm at them. Duncan was then arrested.

Duncan is currently being held in the Cowley County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
