More information has been released by the Ark City Police Department regarding a shooting Thursday afternoon in south Ark City that sent a Wichita man found with gunshot wounds to the hospital.
The Wichita man, who remains unidentified, was found in the 700 block of South A street with gunshot wounds to his lower body. He was transported to SCK Health north of Ark City before he was later transferred to Wichita for further treatment.
The ACPD said Friday his current condition is not available “due to HIPPA.”
However, police did release the names of those arrested in connection with the incident, including a 21-year-old Ark City man authorities say left the scene in a blue Dodge Durango at a high rate of speed.
That man, who was arrested following a pursuit south that went across the Kansas/Oklahoma state line and ended in a crash on Home Road three miles west of U.S. 77 just north of Newkirk, was identified as Miguel Juan Martinez of Ark City.
The ACPD says Martinez was transported to the Kay County Jail pending extradition to Kansas.
The two men arrested back at the scene where the gunshot victim was found in Ark City were identified as 31-year-old Chance James Jackson of Ark City and 20-year-old Fernando Jesus Rodriguez, also of Ark City.
Jackson is being held on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated child endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm in the city and criminal damage to property. He is being held on a bond of $150,000.
Rodriquez is being held on an active Department of Corrections warrant, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rodriguez does not have a bond due to the active warrant for his arrest, the ACPD said.
“Further charges may be filed to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues in the coming days,” the police department added.
From Thursday:
A Wichita man was found Thursday afternoon with gunshot wounds in the 700 block of South A Street in Ark City.
According to a news release from the Ark City Police Department Thursday evening, authorities were called to the scene at 2:42 p.m. for a possible shooting.
Officers found a 35-year-old victim of Wichita in the street, who sustained gunshot wounds to his lower body.
Ark City EMS was called to the scene and transported the victim to SCK Health. He was later transferred to Wichita for further treatment.
At about the same time as the initial call, officers were made aware of a blue Dodge Durango leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect was possibly leaving the scene in that vehicle.
Officers found the vehicle, attempted to conduct a stop on the vehicle when it sped up, and then led officers on a pursuit south, out of the city limits.
Officers maintained contact with the suspect vehicle, which eventually crashed on Home Road about 3 miles west of US 77 in Oklahoma.
A 21-year-old Ark City man was taken into custody at the scene.
Back in Ark City, officers checked a residence adjacent to where the victim was found and officers took into custody a 31-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of Ark City.
”Currently, there is no danger to the public,” the ACPD stated. “Another (news) release will be provided soon with more details.”
