Local police arrested an Ark City man twice last week in a pair of unrelated incidents, according to a media statement released Wednesday.
37-year-old Corey Dean Erwin remains in the Cowley County Jail, according to online records. Total bond has been set at just under $16,000.
On October 22, officers with the Arkansas City Police Department responded to a report of theft in the 1200 block of North Summit Street. During the investigation, Erwin was identified as a suspect in the theft.
Officers located him at his residence, where they also questioned an unknown male subject present at the time. The other man provided false identification to the officers, according to the statement from the Ark City Police Dept.
Erwin was arrested for theft and subsequently posted bond. The stolen items were recovered and returned to their owner.
The other man was later identified as Brandon Shay Toon, 40, who had multiple outstanding warrants. At that time, officers were unable to locate Toon for questioning regarding the false information he provided and the active warrants against him.
Then, on Oct. 24, officers responded to the report of an accident at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Summit Street.
Before officers arrived, one of the vehicles involved left the scene. Through investigation, it was determined that Erwin had rear-ended another vehicle and fled the area, according to a report.
Officers located Erwin’s vehicle in the 1000 block of North C Street. Upon contact, it was revealed that Erwin was driving with a suspended license and had prior arrests.
During the arrest, officers found several drug-related items in Erwin’s vehicle, along with a stolen license plate. Erwin is also under investigation for possessing a stolen motorcycle and chainsaw. He has been transported to the County Jail, where he is being held on charges that include:
• Possession of methamphetamines
• Possession of marijuana
• Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Possession of hallucinogens
• Possession of depressants
• Driving while suspended
• Theft

He was also booked into the Cowley County Jail and remains there.
