An Ark City home was gutted by a fire that occurred early Monday. No injuries were reported and residents and pets were able to escape safely.
Sometime after 2 a.m., fire crews were called to the 100 block of S. Eighth for the report of a structure fire. The home was quickly engulfed in flames.
A resident of the home, Justin Weant, said fire spread rapidly and consumed the inside of the house in just a few minutes. He was inside at the time and heard his girlfriend scream from outside.
“It happened quick,” Weant said. “Ran out back and noticed our house was engulfed in flames. We lost everything.”
Weant said he was told the fire was electrical in nature. His girlfriend has owned it for a few years. (Continue story below ads.)
Cowley County land records show the residence is owned by Ashly Dill and John Wooten.
Paula Dill, Ashly’s mother, lives next door and said the fire came at the same time that family was learning of a medical emergency involving another family member.
“Everything was just happening all at once,” she said.
