Ark City schools report improved attendance, drop in chronic absenteeism

Arkansas City school board members are reporting improved attendance across the district, with overall attendance rising from 93.1 percent to 94.6 percent. District officials also said chronic absenteeism dropped significantly, from 29.5 percent to 16.2 percent.

The board also moved forward with construction planning, approving interviews with Simpson Construction, McCowan-Gordon Construction and Hutton Construction for the district’s construction manager role. A final recommendation is expected in May.

At Arkansas City High School, the board approved the launch of a new HOSA chapter beginning next school year. The student organization, also known as Future Health Professionals, will give students additional opportunities to explore careers in health care.

In other business, the board approved non-resident enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year, with 146 seats available across the district. Continue below ad.

Board members also approved replacing the Bulldog Stadium scoreboard ahead of the fall 2026 season, along with new desks and chairs for the high school and middle school.

Several personnel changes were approved, including new hires, resignations and administrative reassignments across the district.
