Arkansas City Fire Department is mourning the loss of firefighter Trevor Rusk

The Ark City Fire Dept. is mourning the loss of firefighter/EMT Trevor Rusk, who died while off duty. Rusk, 36, is a Wellington native.

“Trevor was not only a dedicated firefighter but also a friend to many. His courage, professionalism, and  selflessness will never be forgotten,” Fire Chief Stuart Cassaboom said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fellow  firefighters during this difficult time.” 

In a media statement released Saturday, Rusk was described as a valued member of the Arkansas City Fire Department, known for his commitment to the safety and well-being of others. He joined the department on June 5, 2023, and is said to have quickly become a respected and beloved colleague, embodying the “profession’s spirit of service.”

“Trevor Rusk was an exemplary firefighter whose contributions to the safety of our community were invaluable.  His loss is deeply felt not only within the department but across the entire city. We are mourning alongside his  family, friends, and colleagues, and we will ensure that his legacy of service is honored in the days to come.”

No details as to cause of death were given.
