Ark City firefighters will be back on Summit Street this Labor Day, boots in hand, raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. Crews from the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department will be set up between Central and 5th Avenue, collecting donations from drivers.

For decades, firefighters across the country have teamed with MDA to raise money for research and support services for families dealing with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases. The boot drive has become a big part of that effort.

Fire Chief Stuart Cassaboom said the support in Cowley County never disappoints.

“Our community continues to show incredible generosity,” Cassaboom said. “Funds raised will go directly to MDA programs that provide research, care, and support for families living with neuromuscular diseases, and we are proud to do our part.”
