AUDIO: WPD, Cowley County Emergency Communications To Offer Free WVF Text Alerts

The Winfield Police Department will again utilize text message alerts for attendees of the upcoming 50th Walnut Valley Festival in September.

Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong told KSOK the department will again be partnering with Cowley County Emergency Communications.

“Just a good way to stay apprised,” Delong said during a recent guest appearance on the “Get Up & Go Show” last week. “We have had flooding in the past, and we’re praying that doesn’t happen, but, again, being able to reach as many people as we can in an emergency is our goal.”

This service is free.

Users can opt into it by simply texting “WVF2022” to the number 888777. By doing this festival fans will receive messages regarding the festival location, including a daily weather forecast each morning from Sept. 8-18, severe weather alerts and emergency messages related to the festival.

No further alerts will be sent after the festival has ended.

“Once the festival is over, it’s done, so if you’re not from Winfield, you’re not going to get weather alerts once you get home to wherever that may be,” DeLong said.
