The Winfield Police Department is investigating a stolen vehicle taken from the Winfield City Lake.
According to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department’s activity report Wednesday, deputies were notified just after 2 a.m. Wednesday of a stolen vehicle traveling into Cowley County that was being chased by a Sumner County deputy.
The vehicle was originally stolen from the Winfield City Lake and traveled from Sumner County into Oklahoma and back into Cowley County.
The driver and a passenger went into a pasture near 312th and 91st Road and ran from the vehicle, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department says.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., the search for the individuals was called off.
The stolen vehicle was recovered and the case is still under investigation by the Winfield Police Department.
“It is believed that there is no immediate threat to the public, but as always, please report suspicious activity by calling the Cowley County Emergency Communications at 620-221-5447 or by dialing 911,” the sheriff’s department said.
