Bitter Cold, Blowing Snow Blankets Region; White Christmas In Store

Much of the state — including Winfield, Ark City and north central Oklahoma — is going into the holiday weekend with a White Christmas looking assured.

Extremely bitter cold and blowing snow blanketed the state Thursday morning.

Temperatures in Cowley County were at or below zero with wind chills as cold as 27-below.

Temperatures are not expected to return to the plus-side of double-digits until Friday afternoon in the region and are forecasted to stay below freezing Christmas Eve. Christmas Day highs in the mid-30s are expected with a significant warm-up next week.

Snowfall leaves the region by Thursday afternoon.
