The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a person whose remains were found near railroad tracks Sunday afternoon.
Around 2:30 p.m., deputies were sent to tracks west of the K-15 and U.S. 77 highway junction north of Winfield. A BNSF Railroad employee had discovered the remains of a human body.
The county coroner was called and the body was then removed from the scene.
An autopsy has been requested by the coroner at the Kansas Forensic Science Center in Wichita to identify the remains. This case is still under investigation by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, according to sheriff David Falletti.
