Body found near tracks north of Winfield last month not a victim of foul play

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office has concluded an investigation into a body found near railroad tracks north of Winfield. No foul play was involved.

It has been determined that the person, who was from Wichita, took their own life. No further information will be released.

Late last month, deputies were sent to tracks west of the K-15 and U.S. 77 highway junction north of Winfield. A BNSF Railroad employee had discovered the remains of a human body.

An autopsy was conducted at the Kansas Forensic Science Center in Wichita. The remains were identified and it was determined to be a suicide, according to Sheriff David Falletti.
