Body of missing woman found

The body of a missing woman was found on Christmas evening east of Winfield in a pond.

According to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office Monday night, the deceased was identified as Janet Spoon.

Spoon, 69, was first reported missing Saturday.

The sheriff’s office reports Spoon was found in a pond south of Gottlob Lawn and Landscape on East 9th/U.S. 160.

“It is with great sorrow that the Spoon family is suffering a great loss this holiday season,” the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page Monday night. “Janet J. Spoon was located in a pond behind Gottlob Lawn and Landscape this evening.

“Please share your thoughts and prayers for the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one. This is still an active investigation pending autopsy results.”

Authorities launched search parties and on Saturday, the sheriff’s office said the Blue Line Trackers had been working an area near Wheat Road and 360 Bypass Highway.

The sheriff’s office reported Saturday Spoon was last seen in the area of 121st Rd and US 160 Highway when her vehicle became disabled and it was believed she left on foot.
