It garnered significant attention and social media fanfare, but a bull running loose in Winfield Thursday was captured without injury or known reports of property damage.

“Quite a unique experience to say the least,” Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong said. “It’s something we don’t deal with much, for sure.”

On Thursday afternoon, police received a report of a bull on a railroad bridge in the south portion of town. Animal control and other officers caught up with the action near Kline Ford on Main.

Contact was made with a possible owner, DeLong said, and a team of three or four individuals with horses joined in the pursuit. The bull eluded those chasing it for several blocks and made it to Albright Park.

It was captured at 16th and Andrews unharmed and safely loaded up. Police were mainly involved to keep the public away and safe until the bull could be captured.

“Incredibly, the animal caused no known damage,” DeLong said.
