The accolades and accomplishments for Cevin Clark continue.
The Southwestern College men’s basketball star eclipsed 2,000 career points as a Moundbuilder Wednesday night in SC’s 97-71 win at home against Avila inside Stewart Field House in Winfield.
Clark, an Ark City High School grad in just his second season at Southwestern, totaled 28 points and leads the NAIA nationally with 27.4 points per game. Only Iowa’s Caitlin Clark — no relation — is scoring more each night in 4-year NCAA DI/DII college basketball with 32.1 points per contest.
Clark needed just five points to become just the third men’s basketball player in SC history to reach 2,000 points going into Wednesday night. He hit the mark within the first three minutes of the game.
“We are happy for Cevin,” Builders Head Coach Matt O’Brien said following Wednesday night’s win. “He is a great teammate and always happy for others and this team loves celebrating his success.”
Clark is complemented by senior Andrew O’Brien. The KCAC’s top assist leader finished with 10 points and 13 assists against Avila, while sophomore Zach Hidalgo tallied 13 rebounds and junior Justin DeMaria added 19 points.
The No. 9 Builders (18-2 overall, 13-2 in the KCAC) travel to Sterling College (10-10, 6-9)) Saturday.
Curt Caden will have the play-by-play live on 95.9 Bob FM starting with the women’s game starting at 5 p.m.
