Cowley County Community Based Services, in partnership with the 19th Judicial District Court and area school districts, has announced the launch of the Cowley County Truancy Court Program — a new initiative aimed at improving student attendance through early intervention and community collaboration.

The program is designed to help students and families address barriers to school attendance by connecting them with local resources and strengthening partnerships among schools, service providers, and community agencies.

Two community informational meetings are planned to introduce the program, explain the referral process, and answer questions from the public. The first will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Cowley County Community Based Services, 320 E. Ninth Ave., Suite C, in Winfield. The second meeting is set for Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room of Cowley College’s McAtee Dining Center, 206 S. Fourth St., in Arkansas City.

“All parents, educators, service providers, and community members are encouraged to attend,” said Brennan Hadley of Cowley County Community Based Services. “This program is about more than attendance—it’s about connecting students and families with the support they need to thrive.”

All Cowley County school districts are participating in the program, including Winfield (USD 465), Arkansas City (USD 470), Central of Burden (USD 462), Dexter (USD 471), and Udall (USD 463).
