Damage done by a June 17 hailstorm in Ark City does not meet the threshold for public assistance funding, Cowley County Emergency Management officials said Thursday.

The county, through its Facebook page, said it had been formally notified of that by the Kansas Dept. of Emergency Management.

“Although, this means state-administered disaster relief programs are not available at this time, Cowley County Emergency Management remains committed to supporting the community. We will continue to monitor for potential assistance programs in partnership with state and local agencies and will share any updates as they become available,” emergency management officials said in a prepared statement.

The storm in June included large hail that caused extensive damage throughout the city to homes and businesses. At least one business has closed, citing hail storm damage, and other business owners have expressed concerns about their futures.

Those with additional questions can call Cowley County Emergency Management or Cowley County Economic Development Partnership (620) 221-5402.
