Cowley County Fair kicks off tonight in Winfield

The 2023 Cowley County Fair kicks off tonight at the Winfield Fairgrounds.

Grandstand events will open with the ATV Rodeo and Midwest Slingers at 7:30.

According to fair officials Wednesday night, the Midwest Slingers tractor pull with feature V6 and V8 engines and lawn tractors that run on alcohol.

Friday night the fair will feature a rare concert in the grandstands via Jason Boland with Stoney LaRue. Saturday night will be the Figure 8 races and Sunday and Monday nights will close out the grandstand events with PRCA rodeo.

The Figure 8 races will have 70 cars — 50 rear-wheel drive and 20 front-wheel.

On the 4-H side of things, Cowley County 4-H Extension Agent Sarah LaGrone said she expects nearly 300 youth exhibitors with nearly 2,500 exhibits.

The 4-H Show Ring will debut a new announcer’s stand.

LaGrone added four 4-Hers will show breeding bulls as a first for the fair.
