City crews in Ark City are working on a water main break Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the City of Ark City just before 9 a.m., a water main break was located on East Chestnut and the bypass areas.

“Residents in the area can expect low water pressure or no water in that area for the remainder of the day,” the City said.

City of Ark City crews were also busy with water main breaks last summer.

Also, all indoor summer school activities at Ark City High School are cancelled for Thursday. ACHS athletic weights/conditioning groups will meet at Bulldog Stadium and Ark City Middle School conditioning is cancelled. The high school pool is also closed Thursday.

According to USD 470, fire alarms sounded at Ark City High School around 5 p.m. Wednesday and smoke was detected. The few staff and patrons that were on-site at the time safely evacuated the building.

Following a thorough search by the Ark City Fire Department, the cause was determined to be a fire sensor panel.
