Work to build a new Dillons Fuel Center should be finished by late summer and it will take the place of the former El Maguey Mexican Restaurant that closed last month.

Construction on a fuel center at 2504 N. Summit in Ark City is set to begin by early spring. A media release on the project described it as a “major investment” for Dillons.

The pumps will be available for pay-at-the-pump 24-hours a day. A customer service booth will be staffed by an attendant during parts of the day. Regular hours for staffing have not been determined so far, according to Sheila Regher, corporate affairs manager for Kroger, Dillons parent company.

The fuel center allows Dillons Plus Card members to use points earned by shopping at the Dillons Grocery stores. In the past, employees of the store at 425 N. Summit have said the company was interested in building a fuel center. A Winfield Dillons location has had a fuel center for several years.

Dillons has had a presence in Ark City since 1957. Continue story below ad.

According to the company, the fuel center will feature four dispensers serving up to eight vehicles simultaneously. A variety of fuel options including regular, midgrade, premium, and diesel will be available 24 hours a day. Additionally, it will include a service kiosk stocked with convenient “on-the-go” items such as cold beverages, candy bars, and snacks.

“Fuel is such a major part of every household’s budget, so Dillons is glad to help our Arkansas City customers,” Regehr said. “Customers will be able to shop with us and then save instantly at the pump at the new Dillons Fuel Center. Plus, with opportunities to accumulate points even faster through our special promotional events like 4X point Fridays and 4X points on gift cards, or with Boost memberships offering 2X points every day, customers can enjoy even more savings.”
