Local businessman and political newcomer Steve Lungren bested the field Tuesday to land a seat on the Ark City Commission.
Lungren finished with 724 votes, David Colquhoun had 648, Charles Tweety III 550, Charles Jennings 379, Jerry Straley 252 and Mickey Schmith 179. Lungren and Colquhoun will serve four-year terms as the top two finishers.
Incumbent commissioner Tweety will serve a two year term.
“I’m very humbled and very excited to move forward for the people of Ark City,” said Lungren, owner of KSOK Radio and Cowley Post.

In Winfield, Scott Schoon won a four-year city commission term by finishing ahead of incumbent Brenda Butters. After serving a four-year term, Butters was reelected to a two-year term on the commission.
Schoon tallied 701 votes, Brenda Butters received 685, Aaron Underwood 350 and Dennis Smith 161.
Schoon will replace Ron Hutto, who did not seek reelection. He joins Greg Thompson and Butters on the three-member panel.

Incumbents Brett Bazil, Gary Wilson and Bob McGregor were reelected as trustees for Cowley College Tuesday.
Stanley Cochran was the top vote getter and will join the others on the board.

All results above are unofficial until vote canvassing is conducted by the Cowley County Commission. Voter turnout was just over 18 percent in Cowley County.
David Stanley had been appointed to fulfill and unexpired term and did not seek election to a full term.
