An early morning fire in Parkerfield Sunday destroyed a residence and took the life of a family pet, according to the Ark City Fire and EMS Dept.

Just before 4 a.m., fire crews responded to the report of a house fire at 2509 E. Linden. The home belongs to Jeffery and Rabia Trenary, according to Cowley County land records.

The home was destroyed by fire and is a total loss, a fire official said Sunday evening. An investigation is ongoing.

All residents were able to escape unharmed. One pet was saved but another, a dog who woke the family and alerted them to the fire, perished in the blaze.

A gofundme page for the family was already halfway to a $30,000 goal.

Friends and family were gathered at the home Sunday evening. What remained of the home was still smoldering.

Jeffery Trenary told a Cowley Post reporter that so far a cause was not known.
