The City of Ark City says residents in the area of W. Kansas Avenue should look into available funds for housing improvements.

“In a dedicated effort to revitalize homes in Arkansas City, officials seek to inform residents about the available funding opportunities through a Community Development Block Grant that funds housing improvement projects to benefit low-income households in a target area,” a news release from the city stated Friday morning.

The CDBG program, facilitated and administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce Community Development Division, is a federal grant program that funds various local projects, the city said.

“The CDGB program represents a critical step in revitalizing our community,” City Manager Randy Frazer said. “We urge eligible individuals to apply for funding and join us in improving our neighborhoods.

“We believe that by addressing the housing challenges in our neighborhoods, we can create a more equitable and prosperous future for all residents.”

The designated area for Ark City residents to apply for the housing rehabilitation program encompasses the region bordered by West Kansas Avenue to West Ash Avenue and North 7th Street to North 15th Street.

The CDBG program provides federal funds to local governments to develop viable communities by addressing their housing, public facilities, and economic needs.

The city says to be awarded funds, projects must meet at least one of three program objectives:

• The grant will benefit low- and moderate-income persons
• The grant will prevent or eliminate slums and blight
• The grant will resolve an urgent need that communities cannot do on their own
