A former Ark City resident remains in a Missouri jail awaiting trial – as soon as next month – on allegations of sexually assaulting a child.
22-year-old Kenneth Raye Corcran II has remained in custody in the Jasper County Detention Center in Carthage, Mo. since Dec. 2023. His bond is set at $200,000.
A pretrial conference in his case is scheduled for next week and a trial date of March 11 has been set. He faces multiple counts of statutory sodomy involving a victim under 12 years of age.
On Dec. 13, 2023, Joplin Police were called to investigate the sexual assault of a child, said to have been five years old at the time. The alleged assault was said to have occurred the day prior.
Corcran, police said, had no ties to the Joplin Area and had only recently moved there. Following an investigation, Corcran was arrested and charged.
In February 2023, Corcran was arrested by the Cowley County Sheriff’s office after a vehicle he was driving struck a sheriff officer’s vehicle. That officer had been engaged with another driver at the time and was out of the vehicle.
Corcran, who briefly fled from officers, was arrested for DUI and other charges for that incident.
Cowley County Undersheriff Christina McDonald said Tuesday that Corcran still has active warrants locally. A hold has been placed on him by authorities in Cowley, should a point come when he is released in Missouri.
