One inmate was injured Sunday evening during an incident inside the Cowley County Jail in Winfield, according to Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti.
Deputies were called to the facility around 6:40 p.m. for a reported battery. Falletti said Kyle Williams, 39, of Arkansas City, was battered by another inmate, identified as 30-year-old Aaron Holt of Ponca City, Okla.
Williams was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later returned to jail.
Holt subsequently had a charge of aggravated battery added to his booking in connection with this most recent incident. Records show Holt has been in custody since September. He was originally booked on felony charges of burglary of a vehicle and interference with law enforcement, along with a misdemeanor theft of services charge, according to jail records.
Williams was booked into jail in September on felony charges that include aggravated battery.
