Just 1 of 7 Cowley County government positions will be contested in August primary

The filing deadline passed Monday for the Aug. 6 primary elections and just one of seven Cowley County government positions will be contested, according to filing information available online.

Cowley County Commission District 2, which includes the southern portion of the county including Arkansas City, is the only competitive race. Three Republicans, incumbent Bob Voegele, former commissioner and current Cowley College Trustee Gary Wilson, and Jim Maxwell, filed for the position.

The holders of all other county offices, district 3 commissioner Alan Groom, county attorney Larry Schwartz, treasurer Maci DeCoudres, clerk Karen Madison, sheriff David Falletti, and register of deeds Toni Long, will run unopposed. 

Cowley County Dist. Court chief Judge Nick St. Peter and Ark City Judge Christopher Smith will also run unopposed.
