A $15,000 grant from Legacy Regional Community Foundation will help to continue funding a local program that provides deer meat families.
Families Eating Donated Deer, FEDD, has provided nearly 20,000 pounds of venison to families in Cowley County over the past 12 years. The grant will help to offset processings costs to distribute harvested deer meat to those families in need.
Hunters wishing to participate in the program, may drop off field dressed deer at Feaster’s Deer Processing, 21777 151st Rd., Winfield. There is no charge to the hunter.
All legally harvested deer are then processed and distributed to needy families through the Winfield Community Food Pantry, Sheila’s Giving Closet and Tuesday’s Table in Winfield; Joseph’s Storehouse in Burden; and Angels in the Attic and Manna Ministries in Arkansas City.
“I would like to thank the Legacy Foundation for this grant awarded to the F.E.D.D. program,” Richard See, who oversees the program, said, “This shows that Legacy recognizes the value of this program to help those in need and ensure its continuation.”
See works cooperatively with First United Methodist Church to administer the program.
