The Dexter Senior Center is the most recent recipient of a grant from the Better Together Fund at Legacy Regional Community Foundation, according to a press release Monday.

“The Dexter Senior Center had received previous support from the Better Together Fund, so when it was in need of a new roof, leadership again reached out for assistance,” the press release said.

Legacy Regional Community Foundation, a Winfield nonprofit, said Elaine Mikesell Webb with her husband, Bob, joined community members in July to celebrate the completion of the repairs.

“The Mikesell Family is happy to be a resource for good things in the communities they care about,” Legacy CEO Yazmin Wood said, “The family has deep roots in eastern Cowley County and have never forgotten the wonderful people they called ‘neighbor.’

“Legacy is excited to be a part of helping to carry out the philanthropic wishes of the Mikesell Family while addressing needs and charitable projects in the community.”

The Mikesell Family Foundation established the Better Together Fund with Legacy in 2005 in order to provide support for community needs and projects in the areas of south central Kansas that are especially beloved to the family, including Burden and Clearwater, the press release said.
