Traffic is moving again on the U.S. 160 bridge near the Cowley County Fairgrounds, though with restrictions, as work continues on a long-term reconstruction project.

The bridge reopened to head-to-head traffic May 1, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation, with an 11-foot lane width limit in place. The span had been closed since mid-March.

The change marks the second phase of a four-phase project expected to stretch across two construction seasons.

Crews are currently working on the east half of the bridge, with traffic shifted into a single lane in each direction using the westbound side. Once that work is complete, construction will move to the west half, and traffic will be shifted into the eastbound lanes.

The project carries a $14.4 million price tag, with United Contractors Inc. serving as the lead contractor. Continue below ad.

KDOT expects the work to be finished by the end of the 2027 construction season, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to stay alert and follow posted signs through the work zone.
