BLACKWELL — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that two Blackwell residents died and a Ponca City woman was in fair condition following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 5:14 p.m. on Oklahoma 11 and north S Street, five miles east of Blackwell on Monday.
Troopers report that Jose Ramirez, 26, Blackwell, was driving a 2015 Toyota Scion north on S Street and Lisa Turvey, 47, Ponca City, was traveling west on Oklahoma 11 in a 2021 Dodge Ram 3500.
Ramirez reportedly failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and struck Turvey’s vehicle.
Officials report that Ramirez and his passenger, Alan Galavis, 29, Blackwell, were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were pinned in the vehicle for over three hours before Blackwell Firefighters were able to free them using the Hurst Tool. Their bodies were transported by the Medical Examiner Office in Oklahoma City.
Turvey was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. where she was admitted in fair condition with injuries to her neck, trunk internal and external and legs.
Troopers report that Ramirez and Galavis were not using seatbelts. Turvey was.
The accident was Investigated by Trooper Regnier No 219 of the Traffic Homicide Division. Assisted by Trooper Adam Beck No. 700, Trooper Chris Vaughan No. 832 and Lt. Terrell No. 87 of Troop K, Blackwell Fire Department, Blackwell Police Department, Blackwell EMS, Kay County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s 8th District Task Force, Newkirk Fire and Rescue and AirEvac.
