Pavement marking, guardrail replacement work to begin April 1 on U.S. 166

Guardrail replacement work and a pavement marking project will both start soon in Cowley and Sumner counties.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the pavement marking project will be from the north junction of U.S. 77/U.S. 166 at Arkansas City east to the Chautauqua County line. The length is 28.4 miles.

The work is expected to begin around April 1 and be completed around May 3.

During the work, traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car, and motorists should be prepared to slow down and stop and face delays of up to 15 minutes.

Cillessen and Sons Inc., of Kechi, is the primary contractor for the $396,993 project.

Work is expected to start around April 1 on U.S. 166 guardrail replacement in Sumner County.

The work will be on U.S. 166 from the U.S. 81/166 junction at South Haven east for about 9 miles. The project location extends east to east of South Rock Road.

During the work, expected to be completed around mid-June, traffic in the work zone will be controlled by flaggers during daylight hours. During the flagging operation, motorists should be prepared to slow down and stop and expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, is the primary contractor for the $481,414 project.
