The Winfield Vikings football team will be home to start the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Winfield’s 34-26 against Augusta Friday night in the regular season finale improved WHS to 4-4 and secured the No. 8 seed and the final home playoff spot. The Vikings will host No. 9 seed Rose Hill (3-5) this Friday night inside Richard Jantz Stadium.
The Rockets lost at Wellington in its regular season finale 54-50.
Ark City, following its schedule of 5A heavy weights, will drop back solely to 4A competition for the postseason.
The Bulldogs (1-7) will be the No. 14 seed and travel to No. 3 Abilene (6-2).
The Cowboys, who were the No. 1 seed in the 4A West going into last Friday night, fell to Wamego at home 38-14, which put the Red Raiders as the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
The broadcast of the Winfield game will be on 95.9 Bob FM with Curt Caden, while Brady Bauman will have the Ark City game from Abilene on 103.3 FM/1280 AM KSOK. Both broadcasts will also be streamed online at cowleypost.com.
Wellington, the No. 4 seed in 4A West, at 6-2, will host Circle (2-6).
In 8-Man Div. 1, Central of Burden will host Goessel (1-7) Thursday night.
The Central Raiders finished the regular season 8-0 — Burden’s best record since 1987.
