ARKANSAS CITY — Arkansas City police have identified the man who was found dead inside a residence in the 400 block of South 10th Street earlier this week.

The deceased was identified as James Thomas Brown VI, 38. His next of kin have been notified, according to the Arkansas City Police Department.

Brown was found after officers were dispatched to the residence at approximately noon Tuesday, June 30, following a report of a deceased individual. Officers and investigators confirmed Brown was dead and processed the scene as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police said Brown did not have an established residence in Arkansas City, which contributed to the time required to confirm his identity.

His body was transported to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center for a medical examination.

Investigators continue to work to determine the circumstances surrounding Brown’s death. Police said no additional information is being released while the investigation remains active.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Arkansas City Police Department Investigations Unit at 620-441-4547. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 620-442-7777 or by using the “Submit a Tip” feature on the Arkansas City Police Department website.

Cowley Post first reported Tuesday that investigators were seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the deceased after he was found inside the residence.
