Police report icy roads led to nearly 20 motor vehicle accidents in a 24-hour period

Area police and first responders were called to several accidents in a short time recently due to winter weather.

According to the Ark City Police Department Wednesday, officers responded to 41 calls for service in a 24-hour period from 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, through 6:30 p.m. the next night.

Out of those 41 calls, 20 were related to weather as freezing rain/drizzle hit the region that night and into the next day.

ACPD reports there were 10 motor vehicle accidents and eight vehicles were stranded in the roadway.

“We would also like to remind truckers to please follow the appropriate truck route,” the ACPD said Wednesday.

Monday morning, the Winfield Police Department said it worked eight accidents due to icy roads.
