Pizza Hut is on the move in Ponca City.
The restaurant has purchased the building across the street from its current location on North 14th Street. The spot was most recently home to a cell phone business, and before that, a Starbucks.
This will be the third location for the Ponca City Pizza Hut since it opened in 1973. Remodeling is set to begin later this year to create a modern facility with a new Hut Lane for convenient drive-up service and limited seating.
The move is expected next spring, but in the meantime, Pizza Hut will continue serving carryout and delivery from its current store at 2301 North 14th.
Renee Standiford, spokesperson for Pizza Hut franchisee Tetra Management, said in an email Monday, “We wanted the community to know we are not leaving Ponca City, if the current landlord posts a sign looking for a new tenant.”
Pizza Hut got its start 67 years ago in Wichita, Kansas, when two brothers borrowed 600 dollars from their mom to open a small pizzeria. Today it’s the world’s largest pizza chain.
Hours in Ponca City are 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 10 p.m. the rest of the week. Orders can be placed by phone, online, or through the Pizza Hut app.
