Public hearings scheduled in Winfield, Sedan for Evergy power line project

The Kansas Corporation Commission has scheduled two public hearings on Evergy’s proposal to build a 133-mile, 345-kilovolt electric transmission line through western Sedgwick, Sumner, Cowley and Chautauqua counties.

The line would run from the Buffalo Flats Substation near Garden Plain, Kansas, to the Delaware Substation near Delaware, Oklahoma.

The first public hearing will be held Wednesday at Sedan High School, 416 Elm St., following an open house from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The hearing begins at 6 p.m.

A second public hearing will be held Thursday at the Richardson Performing Arts Center at Southwestern College in Winfield. An open house will run from 3 to 6 p.m. in Christy Room 201, with the hearing beginning at 6 p.m. Both are in the Christy Administration Building.

Those unable to attend in person may participate by Zoom with advance registration by noon the day prior to each hearing. Written comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. CST on Jan. 23, 2026.
